On July 6th at Harvard Square in Cambridge Tibetans and Tibet supporters gathered together to honor His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama's 76th birthday.
The gathering was very well attended. There was touching poetry, speeches, prayers and even a yak dance. Particularly touching was singing by the very youngest generation of Tibetan children and prayers by senior Tibetans who made the dangerous crossing against incredible odds over the wintery peaks of the Himalayan mountains to escape with their lives from the torture and destruction of the communist Chinese invaders.
Despite the sadness and sorrow for all the lives lost and destruction that has occurred in Tibet, this gathering was very much one of hope and joy. It was a celebration of His Holiness and everything he stands for in the world. Perhaps in the world today there is no other religious / political leader that carries the same unstained moral authority as does the Dalai Lama. His is a unique message of compassion, truth and ultimate understanding.
In the world's current degenerate age where values, livelihoods and environment continue to decline, its good to know that we are not alone and that there are high positive beings and examples of character and compassion to lead us.
We humbly thank you, Your Holiness for all your hard work, teachings and compassion you have been putting out into the world for all sentient beings, not just Tibetans.
Happy Birthday!
Perhaps the Chinese communists intended to originally destroy you and Tibet's unique culture. In this regard, they have completely failed and you have won as Tibetan Dharma and understandings have now spread around the world and is able to impact many millions of lives far beyond the Land of Snows where it all began!!
