On Saturday, May 14th, we held our 11th monthly Taiwan vigil outreach at Harvard Square to support peace, human rights and freedom for the 23-million Taiwanese people in Taiwan.
In a geo-political environment where the World Health Organization and others continue to trample on the identity and overwhelming wishes of the Taiwanese people by mis-labling the free Taiwanese island nation as a "province of China", our local group continues to make its monthly vigil in Boston to speak out and call for justice and liberty.
China can not and will never speak for the desires and aspirations of the people of Taiwan; only the Taiwanese people can do this. It is their right to be able to determine their own future independently in peace, free from threats and attack.
There will only be true lasting meaningful peace and stability in the region once the world starts to finally recognize the legal rights of the Taiwanese people and drop its increasingly ridiculous and immoral "one China policy" which is little more than CCP imperial domination in East Asia.
Until such a day actually occurs, our intrepid group will continue its peaceful vigil. By defending human rights and freedoms for Taiwan, we uphold these universal values for all peoples regardless of nationality and location throughout the world.
This vigil and the people who took part in it are not supported by any political party, green or blue. Rather it is a gathering of interested people who care about Taiwan and wish to stand up for basic human rights and values that apply to all human beings everywhere.
We will continue our event on the second Saturday of every month. The next vigil will be June 11th, from Noon to 2PM.
Come join us!!
In addition to the vigil activities we held at Harvard Square, Gerrit van der Wees, Senior Policy Advisor at the FAPA Headquarters in Washington, DC. gave a talk about the erosion of democracy under the current Ma administration in Taiwan. Gerrit gave a wonderful and most education talk and helped our local Boston Fapa chapter generate much needed funds.
We thank Gerrit for his decades of service for Taiwanese human rights and democracy. We also thank all those who attended the talk and those who most generously made contributions!!
