Tibet Elderly Help Project

September 08, 2010

I recently learned about a project that truly deserves mentioning because it seeks to help elderly Tibetan refugees who desperately need help as they seek to live out their remaining existence in a foreign land.

Imagine what it must be like to have grown old knowing that everything you had and held dear in Tibet has been brutally destroyed and desecrated by a hostile invader that has murdered over a sixth of the population by one means or another. There is the cold reality that very likely there is no going back and also that there is nothing to go back to; only memories of what once was and could have been. For many all has been lost to the destruction of the Chinese invasion and the Chinese desecration during and after the Cultural Revolution of Tibetan culture and religion.

My very good friend and renown local Tibetan physician, Dr. Keyzom Bhutti, has been a champion for the Tibetan elderly who have now found themselves after decades of peaceful struggle seeking human rights and freedom for their homeland now find themselves old and requiring assistance themselves. These people often require medical assistance, food, clean water and warm housing. After hearing about and talking with her about her heart-warming commitment, the least I felt I could do was to post this story here and pledge my small financial support.

Dr. Bhutti's compassion has received particular comment and notice by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

A noteworthy related project, Dr. Bhutti has been behind is The Amitabha Lodge project. This project involves the building of a special nonprofit hotel which requires approximately $250,000 to complete.

This hotel will offer simple, clean, affordable rooms to pilgrims visiting Bodhgaya, India. Proceeds from the lodge will sustain The Tibet Elderly Help's mission to provide medical care, sanitation facilities, clean water, food and health education for Tibetan elderly in refugee settlements throughout India and Nepal. Dr. Bhutti has been donating portions of her income to this project for many years.

Please join Dr. Bhutti in your support and prayers for this project.
