Ma Tells His Holiness the Dalai Lama "Do Not Come to Taiwan You are Not Welcome!"
December 4, 2008
Who is this "President Ma" anyway?
Or is it "Mr. Ma" when he's hanging out with his friends from the "peaceful" Peoples Republic of China?
Just who is this man working for anyway?
It certainly is not the Taiwanese. We don't think he's even working for the KMT anymore either. For the KMT party this leader is looking like he will be a big disappointment and a nasty slap in the face for them. The Taiwanese independence parties, even though they are on the defensive at this time, hold firmly onto one thing and that is their simple conviction for a free Taiwan. In freedom's non-deceptive purity lies its surprising strength.
It seems the entire moral-order of things is completely placed upside down these days in Taiwan. Ma rolled out the red carpet for the visiting communist PRC ARAT minister and created a brutal police cordon in Taipei last month against the wishes and outcry of the Taiwanese people's protests. Everything was off limits so as not to harm in anyway the jovial pleasure of the imperial PRC representative being charmed in Taipei. Even Taiwan's nation flag (KMT flag) had to be lowered and kept well out of sight. No effort was too big and no indignity too much to bare to make China's minister feel at home and welcome.
Lets please remember the facts here to keep things clear. What has all of Ma's recent appeasement of the PRC yielded Taiwan? Has this "diplomacy" yielded anything other than faint smiles from the Chinese? Nothing! Nothing has been accomplished at all here other than to further threaten Taiwan's standing in the world stage by degrading its statehood at every opportunity.
Has Ma forgotten that China still conducts regular military exercises simulating a sea-born invasion of Taiwan and internationally denies Taiwan's right to even exist regardless of what the 23 million Taiwanese citizens want. China has not changed its position by even an inch and all the former threats still exist today. These risks have not been diminished but increased because Taiwan has refused to defend itself and its people in any way. Never before has a nation-state sold out its people, its economy and its statehood for so little. Other than the two smelly panda bears, this is all that China has brought to the table in any meaningful way.
When it comes to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, simply forget about it. "He simply can not come to Taiwan, He is not welcome!" No other nation takes such a hard and drastic stand towards this world leader who symbolizes hope, peace and human rights. Other world leaders may not always meet with him because of stealthy and / or overt Chinese pressure, but at least they do not prevent him from coming to their respective countries to visit. Ma's actions here are a new low for him and for his political party the KMT.
It should be noted that His Holiness has already visited Taiwan twice before. There really is nothing new in having him visit. Once was in 1997, which was under the KMT regime. The last time was in 2001, which was under the DPP regime.
It certainly demonstrates one thing crystal clear for all to see and that is that China is the new absolute ruler of Taiwan today. It is not the Taiwanese people and certainly not the KMT.
First it was human rights and civil liberties in the streets of Taipei that got lost during the ARAT visit. And now its Taiwan's independent foreign and internal policy that is lost by the crash rejection of any visits by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Taiwan because it would displease Beijing.
One just has to wonder where will the future KMT's political living-space be once China completes its control of Taiwan? It is foolish to believe that the communist Chinese state ruled by the KMT's former arch-enemy, the CCP, would ever tolerate the KMT's continued existence in any way, shape or form other than in some dusty, old history books.
